Examination & Assessment

The principal course work of the Classical Qigong Foundation Study - CKF1ER - is divided into three Semesters. Each Semester is an independent module comprising ten individual Study Blocks.

The progress of each student is measured by a system of continual assessment during the entire course of the program. At the conclusion of each semester, there is a final review for each student involving oral, written, and practical examinations. The grade for the Study Course is awarded partly on the validation of earlier assessments, and partly on the evidence of this final review with regard to the intellectual understanding of the student and their proficiency in realising the principles of Classical Qigong Study.

A student who has satisfied all the criteria with regard to conduct, passing of examinations, and completion of all the required course work of all three semesters of Classical Qigong Foundation Study may be invited to enter a program to undertake specialised in-depth study at the Pathgate Institute of Buddhist Studies which will involve lineage transmission on subjects which are generally unavailable to the public.

Requirements for the First Semester

•  As a pre-requisite to applying for admission to the Classical Qigong Study – First Semester, students must have completed Dharma Foundation Study – Level 1. Dharma Foundation Study – Level I is designed to give students an introduction to Buddhism and Meditation practice. For details of upcoming courses, please see the Teaching Schedule.

•  Each student should make available a minimum of one and half hours per day for home study and practice.

•  Type-written records of course notes are to be presented to the faculty within one week from the completion of a Study Block. This ensures technical support is made available to those students who require either correction or further clarification of the course work.

•  Type-written records in the form of a daily journal, detailing personal experiences with regard to daily practice, are to be presented to the faculty no later than the last Thursday on the week before the commencement of the next Study Block.

•  Temporary refrainment from the consumption of certain food items which have been known to promote gross energy while hindering the cultivation of pure energy.

•  Students who have demonstrated unsatisfactory performance in any Study Block are required to undertake the course study of the same Study Block until such time they have been sanctioned by the faculty to move on to the next Study Block. There is a levy of £120.00 course fees for each additional Study Block.

•  There is an examination in the form of a final review at the conclusion of the First Semester. Only students who have successfully passed the examination may be invited to move on to the Second Semester. Students who fail to pass the first time may retake the examination at a later date. There is no limit on the number of times a student may retake the examination, but there is a levy of £120.00 examination fee for each attempt.

Requirements for the Second Semester

•  To be eligible for the Second Semester, students must have satisfactorily completed Dharma Foundation Study – Level 1 and Level II, and Classical Qigong Study – First Semester.

•  Further requirements are available to those students who are eligible to undertake the course study of the Second Semester.
