Gateway to Dharma

What kind of progress can be expected from a student?

The progress of a student is governed by four different modes of advancement: painful advancement with slow cognisance for those who are beset by dull intellects as well as the presence of mental defilements such as desire-attachment, aversion and ignorance; painful advancement with quick cognisance for those whose intellects are bright, yet remain enslaved by an excess of desire-attachment, aversion, and ignorance; pleasant advancement with slow cognisance for those whose intellects are dull albeit there is an absence of major mental defilements; and finally, pleasant advancement with quick cognisance for those whose intellects are not merely bright but mental defilements are also very much absent in their psyche.
