Reflection On Being A Student
Of Lama Dondrup Dorje
“I have been with Sifu Yeung since 1992. In all the various subjects Sifu gave us instruction in, such as Taiji, Xingyi, Pa Kua and Classical Qigong, were a number of common threads. Sifu emphasised that sincerity and consistency, respect and authenticity were the only way to approach the teaching and indeed life itself. While the core of his teaching is based on truly implementing reverence, humility and gratitude, we have actually always been taught the essence of Buddhist Dharma - the study of the true nature of reality. Right from the beginning, proper conduct and behaviour were instilled into the students, creating a harmonious environment whereby the potential of the students could be properly nurtured. Sifu never allows students to drift or follow the wrong track; instead we are constantly reminded and corrected, being shepherded in the right direction. Only an authentic teacher who has the awareness of what the student is experiencing and what will happen as a result of that could help the student in this way. This leads to the uncanny experience whereby Sifu may be giving teaching to a large group of people, yet many will feel as though they and their specific issues are being addressed alone. I have often felt as though Sifu had read my mind, or uncovered things that were troubling me, of which I had been unaware. In each case, Sifu never just exposes the problem or difficulty, but also provides the solution, which when followed exactly harmonises the situation.”
