Reflection On Being A Student
Of Lama Dondrup Dorje
“I have been a student of Sifu Yeung since 1996. I now work as an Occupational Therapist in a hospital. Over time, I have experienced many benefits from being a student of Sifu. He has given me an opportunity to improve all aspects of my life from relationships within my family to managing my job in a harmonious way in the hospital. Sifu offers solutions to any problems that may surface and if you follow his advice, his advice will not fail you. This has been consistently true with everyone that I know to have been a student. Being around Sifu is extremely motivating and it makes you want to do better. Whatever stress or negativity you bring will somehow be dealt with and you always leave feeling revitalised. Not only does Sifu teach in great detail, he can relate the teaching to your particular condition whereby it is possible to apply it to your daily life. I have come upon my share of difficult situations in my life and never once was Sifu's support and advice not there to help me through to a satisfactory conclusion. This has also been true outside of work. The greatest benefit I experienced is a growing sense of confidence in myself and the lessening of insecurity. Nowadays, I am much more relaxed and at ease with myself, and this has allowed for a huge reduction in conflict that I used to generate in the past. Sifu gives me the opportunity to learn how to harmonise and how to interact with other people in a mutually beneficial manner. We all need a reliable role model who can inspire us to do better. If we rely solely on ourselves as our own role model, then how can we get ourselves out of a lifetime of habitual tendency? Following Sifu's instructions makes life a lot easier because Sifu understands what is happening and has the wisdom to bring harmony to the situation rather than resorting to control. In Sifu I found an authentic spiritual master who has supported both myself and others onto something better, worthwhile and satisfactory.”
