Testimony of Wayne Howe

Wayne Howe became interested in Qigong as a treatment for injuries he picked up through frenetic Kung Fu training. Prior to this, he had spent over a year seeing various physiotherapists, chiropractors and orthopaedic specialists with limited result. He then started practising Qigong with teachers from the USA and the UK over the next two years, but his injuries did not improve. Instead he began to experience excess heat in his chest and head, which left him with flu-like symptoms. In late 1992, he went to Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje for treatment.

"At my first lesson, Sifu guided me through a process of 'Energy Cleansing'. As the cleansing proceeded, the congestion in my head and chest started to come down and it was replaced with a soothing, cool feeling that extended down to my feet. As this was happening, I began to shake quite violently, which seemed to bring out all of the aches and pains from my body. At the end of the session I felt very calm and my body felt light, refreshed and open. Sifu explained the shaking was caused by the release of negativity and congested energy built up in my previous practice. Only then did I realise how important it is to have someone of his ability not only to teach, but also to effect the actual balancing of the energy system.

I was at a friend's house talking about the Taiji when they asked me to demonstrate what I had learned and so I began to demonstrate the form I was learning, keeping the image of Sifu doing the form in my mind. My friend's grandmother at this point said that she could see the face of a Chinese gentleman behind me. Her description sounded very similar to that of Sifu. The following day, I brought with me a copy of an article containing a picture of Sifu, and she confirmed that it was indeed Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje that she had seen. She had several psychic experiences in the past, but we were both taken aback by the incident. I described what had happened to Sifu and he just smiled.

Sifu has often talked about the cultivation of Shen Kung and its use in distant healing. This level of energy development is described in the classics as 'Oneness with the Tao' and 'Connection with the Universal Consciousness'. I have had first hand experience of distant healing when I was sent home from work suffering from a kidney infection. I felt completely drained of energy and had pain around the kidney area. I rang Sifu in the afternoon explaining my condition and he told me to get some rest and that he would take care of it and to give him a ring in the evening. I fell asleep soon after our conversation. When I woke up several hours later, not only did I feel that my body was impregnated with a new surge of energy and the pain reduced, but there was a tangible change of aura in the whole room. There was a distinctive presence of serenity and peacefulness. The wall seemed to shimmer and I could feel the fullness of vivacious energy in the room. I was able to return to work within two days much to my own amazement.

Another example of Sifu's healing ability was when I once stepped off the kerb in the street, I carelessly stood on a empty can and felt my ankle gave way as I fell to the ground causing my ankle to swell up, rapidly becoming stiff and sore. Sifu who was given a ride by car saw this, asked the driver to pull up and asked if I was okay. I informed him that it was quite painful but he just smiled, replying that everything would be all right, before being driven off again. I was not looking forward to walking the considerable distance with my fellow students back to where we were staying, but as I took the first few steps, my ankle began to tingle and the stiffness and pain subsided. After a few minutes, I was walking fine and my ankle felt better than ever, much to the surprise of all of us."
